IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and is also known as a photo-facial. Like CACI, it’s non evasive so the skin can be treated without excessive disruption of the skin’s surface. This means, that although reddening my occur, there is no ‘down time’ and you can carry on with your everyday routine straight after.
What happens during IPL?
Before treatment begins, goggles must be worn to protect eyes and a cooling gel (like in an ultrasound) applied to keep skin cool and focus the light. Your fully trained therapist will then gently deliver precise amounts of light energy through the skin’s surface to the targeted area. Levels of energy specific to your treatment are used to maximise your improvement and once delivered, the light energy is absorbed by the targeted damaged tissue. The light energy stimulates the production of collagen so that as this new collagen forms, it softens the appearance of ageing skin. Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased and the redness associated with rosacea and broken capillaries can be dramatically reduced. Depending on the area to be treated, there will often be a series of 6-12 treatments which take on average 15-30 minutes with a 1 to 2 week interval between sessions.
What does it feel like?
